With a show of hands, who gets super dry lips in the winter? If you're like me, I love to wear lipstick year round. But I'm really in love with the lip colors starting fall through winter. I absolutely love a dark or rich color lip. Well this can be an issue if you don't take proper care of your lips during the colder months.

Have you ever tried applying that perfect matte color with dry lips? Yeah, it looks pretty nasty! Well there is actually a really simple fix. As you know, in the winter you want to make sure that your skin in general is correctly moisturized and frequently. Well the same goes for those lips. This doesn't just apply for women either, men can get crusty I mean dry lips too, LOL. On top of moisturizing, you want to make sure that you are doing a lip scrub. This removes that dry layer of skin we tend to get when the weather goes from warm to cold. Well, most of us anyway. There are a lot of lip scrubs out there and some can get pretty pricey. I'm more of a natural at home DIY type of girl. For one, I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for something I can make at home. Secondly, I don't want to spend all my cash for something I can make at home. Oh, were you expecting a different response? HA!

Let me make this disclaimer really quick "I am not a skin care specialist, so don't rely on my post to diagnose or treat ANYTHING. I'm just sharing my experiences and what works for me". Okay...now we can continue on, LOL. Dry lips in the winter is pretty common and you hear a lot of people complain about this issue. SOOOOO, I decided to blog on this topic because I too was experiencing those crusty lips. LOL. Ignore me, I'm just a goof ball, but I mean no harm. I'm pretty sure most of you have heard of this DIY lip scrub that consist of only two ingredients: honey and brown sugar. Yup, that's all you need and they work great for scrubbing your lips and leaving them feeling super soft. Not to mention the mix tastes great. I normally do this once a week which really helps with dry, peeling, rough lips. Take my word, you don't want to apply lipstick with dry skin on your lips. The lip color is blotchy and the skin on your lips may peel. I know when NYX first came out with their suede lip line and I would wear them all the time ( I LOVE NYX, btw), but my lips would just insist on peeling. If you've worn that particular lipstick before you know exactly how it dries. It literally leaves a suede feel to your lips (as in the name). Well, dry it stains your lips and is supposed to stay on for a while (it does a pretty good job). BUT, if you have dry skin on your lips it tends to peel. When it dried I would see the skin that needed to be removed from my lips and it just wasn't an attractive look.  My husband was probably thinking "what the heck is wrong with her lips" HAHAHA! Not because of the lipstick but because of the dry skin on my lips. But, when I did this lip scrub and applied the lipstick...BOMB!

Something new I just learned from a YouTuber (Luhhsetty), is pretty simple and I actually started doing it and my lips feel AHHHmazing! This trick is so simple and I can't believe I've never thought of it. I still love my honey and brown sugar scrub, but for some reason I feel like the dry skin doesn't come back as quick when I use this method. After brushing my teeth, I rinse my tooth brush and literally just gently exfoliate my lips with my toothbrush and water. Yes, I do this every single day. When I say my lips are super soft AND the dead skin is completely removed from my lips. Anytime you try something recommended from someone other than a professional, you definitely want to pay attention to your skin. My lips are not sensitive and doing this daily doesn't bother me at all. I don't scrub them hard either though, I gently brush my lips and make sure they are not dry when doing this.  I also noticed it lightened my lips a bit, being that my lips are naturally dark.

So on top of the lip scrub, finding a good moisturizer or chapstick is definitely key. I notice when I use certain chapsticks it really dries my lips out. It's so annoying because I'm constantly applying and it seems to make my lips peel or become more dry than they were prior to using the chapstick. I won't name any because I'm not doing a review and don't want to seem like I'm bashing any companies product. Also, everyone is different! So what works for my lips may or may not work for yours... and vice versa. BUT, I will list the chapsticks that I am LOVING right now. Try them out and let me know what you think. *I bought all of these products with my own money and am in no way being told to list any of these*. I honestly just LOVE them and they work wonderfully. Just in case you're wondering, YES I use two different lip balms at a time, LOL. They give me the same results AND I switch jackets all the time, so I just leave them in my pockets so I'm not without. HAHA!

1. C & H Pure Cane Sugar (can be purchased at any WalMart, Target, or your local grocery store).
2. Raw Honey (I use this kind which I purchase from Target, but you can use any brand of honey).
3. Burt's Bees Superfruit Moisturizing Balms (These are so bomb!!)(Can be purchased at WalMart, Target, or any drug store).
4. Pacifica Lip Balm (I'm currently using Indian Chai, which can be purchased at Ulta that I know of).
5. Rodan + Fields Redefine Lip Serum (This has to be purchased from a dealer or Amazon)(Pretty pricey but I listed because this was a gift and it works amazingly good, I don't use every night either).

If you know of some good lips scrubs that you have purchased feel free to leave them in the comments OR if you know of any other DIY lip scrubs SHARE!! ;)
